Old School Baseball by Neal Sherman is a different kind of personal training for your young athlete (ages 10-18). This is coaching that includes you, the parent or guardian, enhancing your child’s success on and off the field. I bring over 50 years combined experience of playing and coaching. Areas of Focus
Skill Development and Physical Conditioning
Athlete:
I will focus on improving your child’s fundamental skills such as hitting, pitching, fielding, and base running through drills and repetition. I will create drills that develop strength, agility, speed, and endurance specific to baseball demands.
Parent:
I will involve parents in practice drills when appropriate. This could include hitting or fielding drills where a parent can assist with feeding balls or providing encouragement. Assign drills or exercises for the player to practice at home, and involve parents in overseeing and supporting this practice regimen.
Mental Preparation and Game Strategy
Athlete:
I will teach strategies that will help with enhancing focus, concentration, confidence, and resilience to perform under pressure. This includes understanding situational awareness, game tactics, and decision-making processes.
Parent:
Involve parents in the goal-setting process. Discuss short-term and long-term goals for the player, and how parents can contribute to achieving these goals outside of training sessions.
Position Specific Training and Technique Refinement
Athlete:
I will tailor sessions to address the unique requirements of the player’s position (e.g., infielder, outfielder, pitcher). Fine-tuning mechanics and form to optimize performance and reduce the risk of injury.
Parent:
Involve parents in the goal-setting process. Discuss short-term and long-term goals for the player, and how parents can contribute to achieving these goals outside of training sessions.
Philosophy
Parents of young baseball players often see team coaching take their child to a certain level, but it’s not uncommon to encounter frustration when they hit a plateau or face mental blocks. Having played and loved baseball my entire life, I am now eager to share this passion and experience to help young players achieve their dreams. For me, this endeavor isn’t about making money but about nurturing the next generation of baseball talent. While there are many excellent coaches offering private sessions, what sets me apart is my commitment to working in partnership with you, the parent or guardian. Rather than keeping you on the sidelines, I want you to be an active and supportive resource in your child’s baseball journey, helping them reach their full potential in the sport. Contact me today!
